If you are weighing up the Ottocast Play2Video Ultra AI Box Carplay, you are in good company: it has around 768 orders on AliExpress and sits at about £76.79 for UK delivery, with 85.6% positive feedback on the listing. Here is what the listing tells us, what to check, and who it suits.
What is the Ottocast Play2Video Ultra AI Box Carplay?
The Ottocast Play2Video Ultra AI Box Carplay is a CarPlay AI box, also called an Android AI box. It plugs into the USB port your car already uses for wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, then boots its own Android system on the dashboard screen. Your phone still handles maps and music through wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, and you get an app launcher with streaming apps on top.
It is a cheap alternative to swapping the whole head unit, which is why these boxes have taken off with UK drivers.
Specs mentioned in the listing
The seller's title mentions: android auto (Mentioned), wi-fi (Wi-Fi 6 mentioned), apps (Netflix, YouTube). Treat that as a starting point and confirm on the full listing.
As a rule of thumb, 4GB of RAM is the minimum we would consider and 8GB is more comfortable.
Will it work in my car?
The box needs a car with factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto. If your stereo shows the CarPlay icon when you plug in your phone with a cable, you are most of the way there. Cars with wireless-only CarPlay, or aftermarket stereos, can be hit and miss, so check the seller's compatibility list for your make, model and year.

Apps, wireless connection and SIM
No SIM is mentioned, so expect to use Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot for streaming and online maps.
Streaming is for when you are parked: UK rules stop video being shown where the driver can see it while driving. See our guide on watching video in the car.
Setting it up
Most owners are up and running in a few minutes: plug the box into the CarPlay USB port with the supplied cable, start the car, let the box boot, then pair your phone when prompted. Update the firmware and sign in to your apps while parked. Steps vary slightly by model, so follow the seller's manual.
Is the Ottocast Play2Video Ultra AI Box Carplay good value in the UK?
At about £76.79 with around 768 orders, the Ottocast Play2Video Ultra AI Box Carplay is one of the busier listings in its category for UK delivery. Prices change daily, so check the final total at checkout. AliExpress usually adds UK VAT at checkout on orders up to £135, so what you see is normally what you pay.
