What is the Tanix TX5 Android 14 TV Box?
The Tanix TX5 Android 14 TV Box is an Android TV box that plugs into your telly's HDMI port and adds apps, streaming and a browser. "AI" in the name is mostly marketing for voice search or upscaling, so judge it by chipset, RAM and storage instead.
Specs mentioned in the listing
The seller's title mentions: system (Android 14), chip (Amlogic), connectivity (4G or SIM mentioned), video (4K or higher mentioned). Treat that as a starting point and confirm on the full listing.
As a rule of thumb, 4GB of RAM is the minimum we would consider and 8GB is more comfortable.
Using it in the UK
Stick to legal apps such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and YouTube. Avoid boxes pre-loaded with "free" IPTV subscriptions, which are often unlicensed.
Many cheap boxes are not Google-certified, which can limit Netflix to low resolution. Look for certification or Widevine L1 in the listing.
Connectivity and ports
Check which Wi-Fi standard it supports. It lists 4K output, so you need an HDMI port on the telly. A wired Ethernet port is handy for steadier streaming if your router is close.
Setting it up
Plug it into an HDMI port, connect the power adapter (check it has a UK plug or use an adapter), pick your Wi-Fi and sign in to your apps. Updating the firmware first is a good habit.
Is the Tanix TX5 Android 14 TV Box good value in the UK?
